Discover OpsForm’s new training program: Drone Operations Specialist

Categories: News

A logical evolution in the drone industry

The professional drone industry is undergoing rapid transformation. Initially focused on remote piloting, it is now evolving toward more complex, regulated, and structured operations.

Industrial inspections, missions in urban environments, long-distance operations (BVLOS)… these new applications require thorough preparation and a deeper understanding of regulatory and operational constraints.

In this context, a new role is naturally emerging: that of Drone Operations Officer.

A role inspired by aeronautics

In traditional aviation, operations rely on a precise organizational structure, in which each mission is prepared, analyzed, and approved before it is carried out.

The drone industry is currently following the same trajectory.

The Drone Operations Officer is responsible for planning missions by incorporating:

  • airspace analysis
  • interpretation of NOTAMs
  • European regulatory requirements
  • weather conditions
  • risk assessment

An approach directly inspired by the role of a flight dispatcher, adapted to the specific characteristics of UAS.

A training program designed to address real-world challenges

With this new training program, OpsForm offers an approach focused on the operational management of drone missions—an area that is still underdeveloped in the current market.

The goal is not to learn how to fly, but to understand how a mission is prepared, secured, and validated in its entirety.

Learners are thus encouraged to work on:

  • the complete preparation of an assignment
  • Weather analysis for drones
  • Reading and interpreting NOTAMs
  • planning and navigation
  • Incident and Crisis Management

This approach helps develop a genuine OPS mindset that can be directly applied in a professional setting.

A response to the increasing complexity of operations

The increase in operations in sensitive areas, European regulations (EASA), and the growth of BVLOS operations require a more sophisticated approach to mission planning.

Today, the success of a drone operation no longer depends solely on piloting skills, but on the ability to:

  • anticipate risks
  • analyze the environment
  • make operational decisions

This training program is specifically designed to develop these skills.

A unique market positioning

Most current drone training programs continue to focus on remote piloting.

With this new approach, OpsForm is introducing a specialization focused on operations and safety, in line with aviation industry standards.

A natural evolution of the market, which is moving toward greater professionalization of practices.
